4. 3:10 To Yuma - Dan Evans & Ben Wade

The Riddler The Batman
Lionsgate

Masterful Western remake 3:10 to Yuma centers around impoverished rancher Dan Evans (Christian Bale), who takes a job escorting ruthless outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to the 3:10 pm train to Yuma Territorial Prison, where he will be hanged for his many crimes.

As the situation becomes more dire, however, Evans manages to negotiate a much better deal for himself from the railroad - enough money to pay off his substantial mortgage debts, access to river water on his farm, and relief from his creditor Hollander (Lennie Loftin).

Though Evans is killed in the climax of James Mangold's remake by Wade's savage second-in-command Charlie Prince (Ben Foster), he did nevertheless get Wade to the train, ensuring that his family will be well cared for following his death.

As for Wade, it's made incredibly clear that he willingly boarded the train to ensure that Evans completed his task and will receive what he's owed, but only because Wade knows full well that he'll manage to escape his incarceration onboard the train long before it reaches Yuma.

That's what you call a win-win.
