10 Movies Which Refused To Give Fans What They Came For

3. Spider-Man 3 - Venom As The Main Bad Guy

The Sam Raimi Spider-Man films may not exist within the MCU (at least not yet) but they certainly laid down the groundwork for which all superhero films built their foundations. They were inspired and fun, and had potential to go on further than they lasted. But they weren't without their faults, mainly lingering around the third and final instalment.

While Spider-Man 3 has had its share of rotten tomatoes thrown at it for that infamous cringe-inducing dance sequence, an even more unforgivable crime the film committed was the promise of Venom, and only delivering the character well into the film's final act. Spider-Man 3 was already a bloated film, but marketing and promotional posters showed the black Spider-suit and the symbiote attaching itself to Peter Parker.

Here we go! Venom is going to be our villain! But no, instead the movie gives audiences almost two hours of Sandman (not knocking the villain, but come on!) and Harry Osborn's Proto-Goblin as villains to contend with.

Almost as much as teasing The Lizard throughout the trilogy, the third film teases audiences with Venom and when he finally makes his debut, he is about as well received as a flesh-wound. The film didn't even change Topher Grace's mellow voice to something a bit deeper and scarier. Leaving us with dialogue that doesn't seem as threatening when Venom shrieks and scuttles around in the shadows.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
