8. Professor Marvel Is A Fraud - The Wizard Of Oz

Given that The Wizard Of Oz is set in two different "worlds," the movie provided a great opportunity for the filmmakers to foreshadow a whole bunch of stuff - especially since many of the actors in movie played different roles in both Kansas and in Oz. So whilst there are many obvious moments of foreshadowing scattered throughout the picture, here's one that you probably missed.

During the opening scenes in which Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) runs away from home to prevent Toto being taken away, she encounters one Professor Marvel, who turns out to be a phony fortune teller. He tricks Dorothy into going back home, but the point is he's a fraud.

The genius here lies in the fact that the actor who plays Professor Marvel - Frank Morgan - is the same actor who later plays the Wizard of Oz himself. And that character, too, turns out to be a huge fraud, of course. It might seem like a minor touch, but it's also witty scriptwriting at its best.
