10 Movies With INSANE Budgets (That Didn't Pay Off)

8. Stealth

The Lone Ranger
Columbia Pictures

Stealth had a lot going for it when it hit theaters in 2005, but the film ended up being one of the biggest box office flops of all time up to that point. The movie had a star-studded cast with Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Josh Lucas, Sam Shepard, and more, but none of that talent helped to make this movie work, and it only managed a rating of 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The main problem with the film was that it focused on a jet, which was predominantly rendered via CGI. Most of the action in the movie required intensive effects work, which ended up costing the production a lot of money from start to finish.

Without even touching what it cost to market this movie, the production team ended up using $135 million to bring it to life. It only managed to pull in about $13.25 million on its opening weekend, which barely increased with its eventual worldwide take of $76.9 million.

After looking into the total cost of the movie, it ended up losing a combined total of $111 million due to poor box office receipts, wasted marketing, and legal battles over the use of the word "Stealth" as the title as well as various locations that weren't able to be used.
