3. The Love Triangle - Pacific Rim: Uprising

X Men Apocalypse Magneto Quicksilver

Pacific Rim: Uprising is a thoroughly mediocre sequel to Guillermo del Toro's knowingly cheesy action blockbuster, and one bloated out by one of the most pointlessly ineffectual romantic subplots in tentpole movie history.

Both protagonist Jake Pentecost (John Boyega) and his co-pilot Nathan Lambert (Scott Eastwood) have the hots for officer Jules Reyes (Adria Arjona), with a love triangle appearing to develop between the trio.

This culminates in the cringe-worthy scene where Jules kisses each man on the cheek one after the other, leaving both men baffled.

And while it seems like this is going somewhere, it's totally dropped ahead of the third act, at which point the focus is (perhaps sensibly) trained on the Kaiju vs. Jaeger mayhem.

Granted, few people watching actually cared about the romance, but perhaps if the three actors had any natural sexual chemistry or it was developed beyond two quick scenes, it might've actually meant something.
