10 Movies With Title Characters Who Aren't The Lead

9. Dr. No

Godfather Marlon Brando
United Artists

1962's Dr. No billed itself as "The First James Bond Film Adventure." Based on Ian Fleming's novels, Bond would make his big screen debut in a film named after his arch nemesis.

The film Dr. No was adapted directly from Fleming's novel of the same name. However, the book Dr. No was the sixth James Bond adventure, not the first. At that point in the series, audiences understood that Flemings books were about a spy named James Bond, so Fleming could get away with naming his books after the bad guys.

However, the film stuck with the novel's title, so to make up for the confusion, the poster made it abundantly clear that this movie was about a spy named James Bond. In fact, Dr. No himself is nowhere to be seen on the poster, which features only Sean Connery's Bond and scantily clad women. It shouldn't surprise anyone that someone named Dr. No is the villain, not the hero, of a spy movie.
