10 Movies With Unexpectedly Brilliant Soundtracks

4. Batman Forever

This one shouldn't have been such a surprise. The first two Batman films had excellent soundtracks, courtesy of the likes of Prince, Danny Elfman and Siouxsie & the Banshees. But Tim Burton was gone and this was the dawn of Joel Schumacher's Gotham, a Gotham of campy villains, bad jokes, neon lights and Batsuit nipples. And while Batman Forever did mark a huge decline in general quality, its soundtrack was the exception.

There are some brilliant covers, including Massive Attack's reinterpretation of Smokey Robinson's "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game". INXS' Michael Hutchence makes a rare appearance as a solo artist, covering Iggy Pop's "The Passenger". There are originals from some of alternative rock's finest, including a PJ Harvey B-side and a particularly brilliant song from Nick Cave.

Seal's "Kiss from a Rose" doesn't sound like a particularly original choice for a love song, now. But, at the time, it was actually relatively unknown. It only became a huge hit after it was release as a single from this soundtrack. Several of the songs here can't be found elsewhere, like Cave's "There Is a Light", which didn't even make it onto his 2005 B-Sides & Rarities compilation.

So, as much as you might want to forget Batman Forever, its soundtrack is worth remembering.
