8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (a sort of prequel/reboot to the long standing series) had a lot going for it in my eyes. It had a very good story, James Franco put in a fantastic performance, and the CGI was top notch. But there was one thing that bugged me about Rise that I could not get over: the planet of the apes did not rise. There was, however, a great narrative for two hours, creating an intense back story for the famous movie from 1968 until I realized in the last five minutes that the only thing the apes achieved was reaching a patch of forest. I felt a little robbed and led on by false pretences. With the knowledge of almost no payoff in the likes of what was on the menu but never served, I can't say that I want to make time out of my day to watch this one again, which is a shame. Rise was a fun film, but it ended with me tossing my arms in the air with disbelief. In retrospect, I feel the movie could be titled Breakout and Rise of the Nature Reserve of the Apes (or, you know, something equally fitting).
