10 Movies You Didn't Realise You Were Following The Villain
7. The Usual Suspects
While it's fair to say that the majority of The Usual Suspects' main characters wouldn't be described as heroes, they're all likeable and interesting enough to come across more as charming criminals than out-and-out villains.
That's no truer than in the case of Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey), a con artist with cerebral palsy who spends the bulk of his screen time interrogated by agent Dave Kujan (Chazz Palminteri).
While we're always fully aware that he's a criminal, the film makes it explicitly clear that the baddie at the top of the pile is really the shadowy criminal mastermind known as Keyser Söze. Kint's just small potatoes by comparison, right?
Except, the film's iconic final twist reveals that Kint is in fact Keyser Söze, having cobbled together his convoluted story on-the-fly using objects he could see around the office while Kujan interrogates him.
Ingeniously, we're strung along in much the same way that Kujan is, spending most of the movie's runtime sat opposite Public Enemy #1 hiding in plain sight, before he slinks off into the night without a trace.
