10 Movies You Forgot Had Incredible Casts (And Why You Forgot)
7. Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves
This 90’s revival of the too much adapted English fable certainly got buried under a lot of critical disapproval, half because of the shoddy screenplay and half because of some questionable casting choices for the lead. Despite this, the movie went to be nominated for several awards and won many. Audiences enjoyed the slightly grittier take than the critics did, but the film certainly stayed afloat because of the stellar cast in the Sherwood forest. And this time, no one had to wear tights.
Kevin Costner struggled with the English accent throughout the film however he was propped up by steal-the-screen performances by Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman, the latter in one of his greatest villain performances since Die Hard (and no you can’t class Snape as a villain anymore).
With a cast including Christian Slater, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Nick Brimble and Brian Blessed, this 90’s action romp hides a lot of merry men. And the uncredited role of Richard the Lionheart played by none other than Sean Connery. This retelling of the old folk-tale was more of a hit with the audiences than it was with the critics however much of an incredible cast it hid.
The Reason Why You Forgot – when people think back on this film, they either remember two things: the Oscar nominated ‘Everything I Do (I Do It For You)’ soundtrack or Kevin Costner’s terrible accent. Now becoming more a cult classic than a renowned classic, anyone can be excused for not realising the star-studded credits.
