10 Movies You Should Refuse To Watch On Moral Grounds

5. Soul Man

Soul Man is a weird movie with a weird concept - one that is so inherently racist that it begs the question: "Who the f*ck green-lit this project?" The set-up is as follows: a guy played by C. Thomas Howell can't afford to pay for a college education, so he decides to - wait for it - put on blackface and steal a scholarship intended for minority students at Harvard. That premise is so ridiculous that it's genuinely shocking that anybody in Hollywood went along with it - not to mention it's super awkward to watch. The worst part of Soul Man (that's right: it gets worse) stems from the fact that all of the other characters in the film just seem to go along with this hair-brained scheme and don't notice what's really happening, not to mention the endless instances of racial stereotyping that go hand and hand with absolutely every scene in the movie. It's bizarre! Thus, Soul Man is offensive as hell, morally wrong, and absolutely nobody should ever waste their time indulging in its terribleness - it's the White Chicks of the '80s.
