10 Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Were Huge Box Office Hits
9. March Of The Penguins (2005) - $127.4m
On paper, a French nature documentary about emperor penguins doesn't exactly have the potential for box office success. However, Luc Jaquet's heartwarming Antarctic tale caught on with both critics and audiences in a big way and would go on to become one of the most commercially successful documentaries in history, as well as winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. March of the Penguins showed great legs at the domestic box office, remaining in the top ten for ten weeks and ending its theatrical run in the United States with a total of $77.4m. With the soothing tones of narrator extraordinaire Morgan Freeman providing the voice-over for English-language audiences and a narrative as entertaining as it is informative, March of Penguins would go on to earn almost $130m worldwide and become the highest-grossing nature documentary of all time in the process.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
