10 Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Were Huge Box Office Hits

6. Juno (2007) - $231.4m

First-time writer Diablo Cody and sophomore director Jason Reitman's comedy drama was a critical darling, landing on many of the year's 'best of' lists and winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay along with nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. Originally slated for a limited release, Juno proved so popular with audiences that it actually ended up as the year's twenty-second highest-grossing movie worldwide, a hugely impressive feat for a low-budget independent flick. Propelled by strong reviews and word-of-mouth, the movie would crack the domestic top ten and remain there for an incredible fourteen weeks and finish its Stateside theatrical run with $143.5m, making it the fifteenth-biggest movie of the year domestically. On a worldwide basis, Juno not only out-grossed popular comedies Knocked Up and Superbad at the box office, but also earned more than big-budget blockbusters Ghost Rider, Beowulf and Evan Almighty. Despite the potentially touchy subject matter, the movie turned out to resonate with audiences around the world in a big way.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
