10 Musicians Who Are Actually Good Actors

9. Harry Styles

What was most impressive about the erstwhile One Directioner’s turn in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk was the unshowiness of it all. Styles played Alex, one of many soldiers stranded on the titular beach, and he fits in perfectly. His casting was headline news, but his performance is naturalistic and generous. He plays one of the more dislikable characters in the film, a brash and selfish soldier, but is relatable too, no easy feat for one of the world’s biggest pop stars.

He has also proven himself to be a keen comic actor through several appearances on US variety show Saturday Night Live. As both host and musical guest he has featured five times on the programme, with and without his former bandmates, and has been one of the surprising hits of SNL’s recent years.

Styles is always game for a laugh, and has demonstrated a surprising knack for impressions, with a great Mick Jagger spoof among them.

With his careers as a musician and fashionista going strong, Styles is something of a renaissance man. His acting resume is as-yet pretty thin, but early signs suggest he has a lot to offer.
