10 Non-Christmassy Christmas Films To Watch At Christmas

'Tis the season for putting your feet up and watching a great family movie.

The Chronicles of Narnia

It’s getting to that time of year again. The adverts have started on the TV, the same 12 songs on the radio, and you still have no idea how to cook a turkey. But one thing you can be sure of, is that at some point in the next few weeks you are going to be sitting down to watch a Christmas movie and it’s more than likely going to be the same Christmas movie you watch every year. I’m looking at you, The Muppets Christmas Carol!

Despite there being so many good Christmas movies, sometimes you want to have a break from all the singing children and snow and indulge yourself and the family in a fun movie that doesn't rely purely on Christmas cheer. With there being so many to pick from, I had a think and came up with ten movies to watch at Christmas that aren’t even that Christmassy.

So, let’s get started with the top ten non-Christmassy Christmas films to watch during this year's festive period.

10. Big

The Chronicles of Narnia
20th Century Studios

I don't think there is a single person out there who doesn't like at least one Tom Hanks film. Hanks is an acting hero to many, with his career spanning across multiple generations thanks to the inclusion of his voice in the Toy Story franchise, his portrayal of the iconic Forrest Gump, his starring role as Josh in Big, and so many more memorable roles.

To hone in on Big, watching a man-sized child working in a toy store is extremely fun, with a lot of the laughs from the movie coming from Hank's physical comedy. The way he is able to change his whole body to represent that of a young boy is really something to be seen. The film also has a strong message of the love we have for our family, and what better time to remember that than at Christmas.

Big broke cinema records when it became the first female-directed film to gross over $1 million dollars at the box office - Penny Marshall in the director's chair here.

In 2014, it was announced that the movie would be adapted into a TV series, but that show never got past the script for the pilot episode.
