3. Skinwalker
Genre: Horror Crime Drama
What it is: Published by Oni Press, Skinwalker follows a joint investigation into a series of murders, by Navajo Tribal Police Officer Ann Adakai and FBI Agent Greg Haworth, where the killer has skinned his victims alive and wears their skin. The killer has perverted traditional Navajo rituals to take on his victim's features and essentially become them. Officer Adakai and Agent Haworth have to stop him before he gets to Washington DC, for revenge on those he feels put him where he is today.
Why it would be great: Skinwalker is equal parts Se7en and Silence of the Lambs, with great characters you really feel for, forced into a world of ghastly crimes they don't understand. The original comic series is unfortunately only five issues long, and would have to be massively retooled to be an ongoing series, so a mini series would be the way to go. Give it to HBO or Showtime, who have proven themselves as far as intense adult drama is concerned, and this series could be fantastic. It has all of the standard tropes of a crime drama, with plenty of horror and the fantastic backdrop of Navajo tribal culture and traditions making it unique enough to work on TV. Great characters you actually care about, intense action, graphic body horror, and twists good enough to make M. Night Shyamalan quit the business, Skinwalker would be talked about long after it ended.
