10 Notable Movies Featuring (Mostly) Two Actors

1. What Happened Was...

What Happened Was Tom Noonan
The Samuel Goldwyn Company

You may not have heard of this 1994 indie drama, but it won the Sundance Film Festival's coveted Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic) despite starring just two actors and taking place in a single New York City apartment.

Karen Sillas and Tom Noonan (who also directs) star as two work colleagues on their first date, and as the two get to know one another, the dark truths come tumbling out while the awkwardness ramps up to excruciating levels.

Silas and Noonan are both terrific here in a deeply discomforting movie penned with caustic panache by Noonan (adapted from his own play), creating an almost unbearably intimate character study that'll feel all too real to anyone who's ever been on a bad first date.

What are your favourite two-hander movies? Shout them out in the comments!
