10 Obscure Films You Must See
Let’s boldly go where sadly far too few have gone before
As much as I love mainstream cinema, there are times when it feels good to kick back to something that isnt being advertised every time you go online. And while the IMDb Top 250 contains a fair few films that dont often see the light of day, theres isnt the same pleasure in watching them as there is in finding a good film that relatively few people have seen. Im very lucky in this regard, since until very recently I hosted a radio show which involved me watching obscure movies on a weekly basis. As the co-presenter of The Movie Hour on Lionheart Radio, a community radio station in Northumberland, I provided my thoughts on a different cult film every week, in addition to covering the UK Top 10 and new releases. Ive sat through any number of strange, odd or bizarre efforts from filmmakers whose names never captured the publics imagination, and now that my involvement with The Movie Hour has concluded, it seems as good a time as any to give my recommendations of which ones you really need to see. It should be stressed that not all of the films Ill be recommending are great films. Part of the charm of these kinds of films is their flaws, which most of the time can be simultaneously acknowledged and embraced as part of the viewing experience. Not all of them are cult films (at least not yet), but all of them should be easy to track down and enjoy. For each film Ill be giving a brief summary to explain why its so worthwhile. If you want to know more having read this, Ill also provide a link to a more in-depth written review Ive done and The Movie Hour podcast which you can download and keep. So, lets boldly go where sadly far too few have gone before
