8. Pontypool
Based upon the novel by Tony Burgess, this Canadian film is a stunning portrayal of fearing the unseen and unknown. A small town radio host, Grant Mazzy, getting ready for the everyday grind of updating families on school closures, and demanding that his producer allow him to spark some on-air controversy, had an unusual morning. On his way into work, he his nearly ran over by an apparantely disturbed women. However, whilst on air, local reports begin to emerge that there was a shoot out between police and ice-fishers, with the odd revelation that they were running around naked and missing body parts. As reports continue to surface, it becomes apparent to Mazzy that the residents of Pontypool are beginning to be inflicted by a bizarre type of contagious dementia. A beautifully simple film, that holds your interest from beginning to end.
