10 Once-Great Movie Franchises That Just Need To Die

6. The Amityville Franchise

Pirates Of The Caribbean
Metro Goldwyn-Mayer

Would you be surprised to hear that since the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror was released to cinemas, there have been no fewer than 15 movies based on the Amityville legend? The best and most notable of them was The Conjuring 2 and the majority of the rest have been direct-to-DVD or VOD monstrosities that most people won't even know exist.

Continuity is now a thing of the past and the actual mythology of the original haunting has been twisted and mangled out of all recognisable shape and all we're left with is that one word that film-makers seem to believe is marketable enough to have warranted FIVE Amityville-featuring movies in 2016 alone.

Please, someone just put it out of its misery. Retire the 'Amityville' brand and give it enough space for someone to actually come along and reboot it in the future when its made some time to rest in peace.

If I'm not talking about films, I'm watching them.
