In 2010, the biggest film in all of South Korea was a bloody action thriller starring famously selective actor Won Bin. The Man from Nowhere places Won (who’s only ever been in five movies, despite being one of Korea’s biggest stars) into the shoes of Cha Tae-sik, a pawn shop owner who finds himself in deep trouble.

When a friend of Cha’s pawns a large amount of opium for safe-keeping in his shop, the drug dealers come after her and kidnap her young daughter So-mi (Kim Sae-ron). With his only friend’s family in danger, it’s up to Cha to kick some backside and get So-mi back.

The movie drew many positive comparisons to Léon: The Professional and was praised for its well-executed bloody fight scenes and strong character dynamics, performed very strongly at the Korean film awards, and is well worth a watch for those who like their One Many Army pictures.

Also, The Man from Nowhere was remade in India in 2016 with the new title of Rocky Handsome, the greatest name for a film of all time.
