10 Opening Movie Scenes That Do More Than You Realise
7. Marsellus Wallace's Sexual Preferences - Pulp Fiction
There's a good chance you've seen Pulp Fiction at least a handful of times and likely have a crystal-clear memory of the early sequence where Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) unleashes his violent wrath upon Brett (Frank Whaley), the duplicitous associate of Jules' boss, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames).
Jules memorably tells Brett, "You tried to f**k him. But Marsellus Wallace don't like to be f**ked by anybody except Mrs. Wallace." Mrs. Wallace being Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), of course.
In the heat of the moment it's a perfectly badass line to underline how absolutely screwed Brett is in double-crossing Marsellus, yet it also secretly nods towards the grim fate awaiting Marsellus later in the film.
After all, Marsellus' storyline resolves with him being kidnapped and sodomised by Zed (Peter Greene), a non-consensual encounter which only ends when his guilt-riddled foe Butch (Bruce Willis) makes the save.
And yet, Marsellus' horrifying encounter was so slyly hinted at about 90 minutes earlier with Jules' line about Marsellus' sexual proclivities.
