10 Opening Movie Scenes Which Immediately Stunned Audiences

9. Terminator Dark Fate - John Connor Is Terminated

If you want to have audiences immediately forget about the lacklustre Terminator sequels that were Rise of the Machines (2003), Salvation (2009) and Genisys (2015), then picking up the story three years after the events of the last real top class outing for the series in Judgment Day (1991) and bringing back one of the first two film's legendary stars is a good start.

However, director Tim Miller and producer James Cameron weren't satisfied with just letting audiences know that Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor was back in town for Terminator Dark Fate (2019). So, they decided to deliver another hefty dose of nostalgia by revealing de-aged version of Sarah and a young John Connor (Edward Furlong) in the film's opening sequence.

Unfortunately for those die-hard T2 fans, though, a de-aged Arnold Schwarzenegger was also along for the ride and this T-800 quickly terminated the young Connor seconds after arriving on the scene.

Sure, the rest of the film might have struggled to match the heights of this jaw-dropping first encounter. Yet, this stunning moment quickly let us know that we would be dealing with a very different Sarah in Dark Fate, one who had failed to protect her son and watched him die at the hands of a towering machine.

He did say he'd be back...
