10 Original Endings That Would Have Ruined Great Movies

10. The Bourne Identity (2002)

Universal Pictures

The Ending We Got: The original ending to The Bourne Identity is all, like, yeah, there are more movies to come, and that's good, because there were more movies to come - two, in fact, and then another one that kind of wasn't really part of the series. And the ending we were granted saw Matt Damon's character re-united with the girl he's been bugging/sleeping with for the entire movie, and they share a quiet embrace admist some cool music.

The Original Ending: Well, just take a look at this hulking mass of Hollywood filth to see what we almost ended up with.

That's right: The Bourne Identity almost finished with something that looks like it's been taken right out of a Nicholas Sparks novel. We're looking at a full-on make-out moment here, complete with sunset and corny romantic musical cue. This is presumably what would have happened at the end of The Shawshank Redemption had the director not cut away. Thank God this was taken out, then, because it doesn't fit with the rest of the movie at all. And unless your favourite movie is based on a novel by Stephenie Meyer, you're likely to agree.
