10 Oscar 2015 Nominees You Have Already Seen

4. Best Makeup And Hairstyling - Guardians Of The Galaxy

Amongst the general populace, I think its safe to say that Guardians of the Galaxy has been the film of the year thus far, and if we were predicting the MTV Movie Awards, Guardians of the Galaxy would be a strong contender in a number of different categories. Unfortunately though, when it comes to nominating genre fare for major awards, the Academy is fairly skittish, which means even if Guardians of the Galaxy may be deserving in a number of categories, you shouldn't hold your breath on it being a major awards season player. The film is likely to receive a number of technical nominations though, and nowhere is this as certain as in Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The aesthetic design of Guardians of the Galaxy as a whole is very impressive. Few films set in outer space have ever been so boldly bright and cheery in its color palette, but the most apparent achievement of the film is its terrific makeup for some of the film's alien creatures. While the movie relies on CGI in its creation of more complicated characters like Rocket and Groot, the film impressively sticks to more basic makeup techniques in its realization of Zoe Saldana's Gamora and Dave Bautista's Drax. Even beyond the members of the Guardians, there is some impressive makeup work done on a number of secondary and background characters. The Makeup branch can be a strange group, so you can never be too sure in this category, but a nomination for Guardians of the Galaxy from this branch could practically be written in pen.

A film fanatic at a very young age, starting with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies and gradually moving up to more sophisticated fare, at around the age of ten he became inexplicably obsessed with all things Oscar. With the incredibly trivial power of being able to chronologically name every Best Picture winner from memory, his lifelong goal is to see every Oscar nominated film, in every major category, in the history of the Academy Awards.
