10 Oscar Worthy Performances Of The 2000s That Didn't Get Nominations

4. Shailene Woodley - The Descendants (2011)

Alexking1The Role: Alex is the oldest, troubled child of Hawaii lawyer Matt King (George Clooney) who learns that her mother is in a coma and isn't going to wake up. She reveals to her father that her mother was having an affair, and then sticks by him while he tries to come to terms with her imminent death. Why It's Oscar Worthy: The Secret Life of an American Teenager alum Shailene Woodley gives a performance here that should be considered one of the best ever by anyone under the age of 20. While costar George Clooney gives what is possibly his best performance ever in this family-centered dramedy, Woodley matches him every step of the way. Woodley's portrayal is not only that of a caring, supportive family member, but also of a typical teenager filled to the brim with angst.
