10 Outrageous Movie Characters You Won't Believe Exist In Real Life

8. Lucy Whitmore - 50 First Dates

In case you somehow missed 50 First Dates, the film is about a man who meets a beautiful woman in Hawaii and quickly realizes she suffers from short term memory loss that makes her forget the previous day when she wakes up. If you saw 50 First Dates you probably enjoyed it, mostly because of how ridiculous the premise was, and how fantastic Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore were as co-stars. But one of those things is untrue! The mental condition (fictionally called "Goldfield Syndrome") that afflicts Lucy is actually a real condition that Michelle Philpots suffers from. After a car crash in 1994, Michelle lost the ability to create new long-term memories. Every day she wakes up and her husband, Ian Philpots, must convince her that 1994 was 20 years ago, and catch her up on the life she has been living and forgetting one day at a time. It's not hard to imagine what their first date was like (see act one of 50 First Dates, obviously).
