10 Outrageous Ways Movie Trailers Lie To Us

2. Implying There Is More Action Than There Actually Is

You pretty much know what you're getting with most action movies, but that doesn't mean movie trailers should exaggerate how action-packed a given film is going to be. Take the trailer for The Expendables 2 above, which by quickly cutting between a number of different locales, infers that the film is just a non-stop fest of violence, when in actual fact, there are disappointingly long stretches of the film that are without any action at all. It's just patently dishonest and an easy way to manipulate people, because if you see said trailer within the confines of a cinema, there's no ability to pause or skip back; you're subject to seeing the clip once (at least until you get home) and the fancy editing will probably have already won out.
