10 Outstanding Adopted Movie Families

6. Battle Royale

There are numerous movies in which people bond in survival situations, and Battle Royale is certainly an overdramatic and hyperdramatic example, but it is about family on a variety of levels€”Shuya and his father, Noriko and Kitano, the class as a whole, and ultimately Shuya, Noriko, and Shogo. The movie really creates that feeling superbly, especially among the characters who aren€™t actually related. These particular relationships are definitely more than friendships or romance, and add a layer of empathy to the movie that makes it more compelling. You could say that it didn€™t even necessarily need such a layer, but I would argue that it helps bring out similar tones from the novel.

Battle Royale the movie, though, also focuses on the idea of true and false connections through the relationships formed within institutions like school and government, as well as recognizing what true caring is in general and what it means, where we should place our hearts and efforts. In the end, it€™s not just about physical survival, it€™s about compassion and responsibility, and really makes the movie more striking than a WTF movie death ever could. And it€™s the only thing that makes the sequel half-interesting.
