10 Over-Hyped $100 Million Budgeted Movies NOBODY Even Remembers Now

5. R.I.P.D.

It doesn't seem possible that a $130-150 million supernatural buddy cop film starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges could just... up and leave our collective consciousness, and yet, does anyone remember a damn thing about R.I.P.D.?

Adapted from Peter M. Lenkov's 1999 comic of the same name, R.I.P.D. had all the elements on paper for a Men in Black-style breakout hit - except, that is, a witty, charming script, interesting creature designs, or fun action sequences.

And so, the film was widely panned by critics, and releasing amid a slew of other, better-received blockbuster as it was - including Pacific Rim, The Conjuring, and The Wolverine - audiences en masse simply decided... not to watch it.

R.I.P.D. went on to gross $78.3 million, barely half its budget, immediately curb-stomping Universal's plans for a franchise in the process.

A belated direct-to-streaming prequel, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, was released last year, and was unsurprisingly panned by the few critics who even bothered to watch it. More than anything, it simply made people ask, "Remember R.I.P.D.?"
