10 Overlooked But Awesome Movies You Can Watch On Netflix Right Now

2. The Invitation

Gamechanger Films

The Invitation is a fine example of why you should completely avoid trailers, blurbs and other promotional material where possible. It's an incredibly slow burn that pays off big-time come the third act, and this sudden turn of pace is one that'll feel more shocking the less you know about it.

A lot of films have twists, but a lot of films don't tie their twists directly to the beliefs of the characters themselves, to the film's themes or to the emotional crux of the story. In a sense, The Invitation becomes almost unwatchable once you know the truth, the tension scaling to such a ridiculous degree that the twist becomes essential to the enjoyment of the movie.

Unfortunately, this means the film possesses little to no re-watch value, but that doesn't distinguish its merits. It's a solid thriller that should please fans of horror, suspense and drama alike, with great performances from its B-list cast (you may recognise Logan-Marshall Green from Prometheus) and smart use of a single environment. Just make sure you go in cold!

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
