10 Overlooked Positives Of Divisive Upcoming Movies
6. Chris Columbus Is Directing - Pixels
Why The Film Is Questionable: Pixels is the new movie starring Adam Sandler, which is enough to put anybody off (aside from Netflix for some reason). The actor hasn't been in anything approaching a good movie in over ten years, lazily churning out strung-together pratfalls shot while on studio-expensed holidays. Even the presence of Peter Dinklage isn't enough to sway worries of Sandler's influence - he's taken many a great actor down with him in the past. To be fair, Pixels would still be a questionable sell without Sandler. The two-and-a-half minute short of the same name on which its based is cool, but appears to have already mined the "classic video game characters in the real world" concept for all its worth, making a full feature rather unnecessary. The Overlooked Positive: Sandler's screenwriter/actor/producer trio credit is so depressing that it hides the fact that the film is being directed by Christopher Columbus. At his best able to mine curious concepts for the full run-time (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potters), if anyone can make this video game movie as silly as this needs to be to work, it's him.
