10 Overlooked Positives Of Divisive Upcoming Movies

5. It€™s Realising Captain Jack Isn€™t The Whole Franchise - Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Why The Film Is Questionable: With the overwhelmingly fun The Curse Of The Black Pearl, Pirates Of The Caribbean showed you could make a good movie based on a theme park ride. Sadly, the overborne sequels reminded everyone you could also make terribly forgettable ones. The general consensus is that everyone's just fatigued by the franchise, making the impending Dead Men Tell No Tales a rather unexciting prospect. It'll no doubt make a killing in terms of money (On Stranger Tides made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, despite nobody readily admitting to having seen it), but by now the novelty has well and truly worn off. The Overlooked Positive: The biggest problem as Pirates progressed was how Captain Jack went from an accidental saviour to a genuine swashbuckling hero, undercutting the entire original point of the character. Thankfully, this appears to be an issue the fifth film is more than aware of. Whereas On Stranger Tides rested entirely on Jack Sparrow's appeal, the developing quintquel is making steps to broaden the appeal, with a story hearkening back to the first movie and Orlando Bloom returning. That is in itself a questionable choice, but anything that tempers Depp's time in the spotlight will be no doubt beneficial.
