Those who make Star Wars films love to have little nods and callbacks to other Star Wars films and just other Star Wars media in general. And given that the prequels lead directly into the original trilogy, and that they were once thought to be the definitive end to the Star Wars film saga, there were plenty to be found.

Though these little in-jokes and references were in sizable quantities, at no point did they come off as annoying or gratuitous, and were always clever and well placed.

Who can say they didn't get a little smirk on their face in Attack of the Clones when Obi-Wan told Anakin "Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?" or when C-3PO expressed his disdain for flying, or raised an eyebrow at Anakin's suspiciously fascist-sounding musing when discussing politics with Padme? Not to mention getting all giddy the first time you see Boba Fett's iconic armor on his father, Jango, or seeing the two board the Slave I?

Retroactive foreshadowing, when used correctly, can be very effective when telling an origin story, and the Star Wars prequels absolutely nailed this aspect of storytelling. This shows that, despite some questionable decisions with the prequel trilogy, they truly were films created with the fans in mind.
