Although a number of the villains in this list would make the battle with Thanos more personal - look no further than the previous entry Loki, Thor's adoptive brother, for an example of that - none would really have the impact on the level that Red Skull would have. The former leader of HYDRA was essentially responsible for the "death" of Captain America (of course, he didn't actually die, but you get the point) and the subsequent seventy years he spent frozen in ice, only to wake up in an alien world. If he was to reappear as Thanos' accomplice, the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe - and particularly Captain America's world - would be hugely impacted. And there's every chance that might happen. Most people think the Red Skull is dead, but the likelihood is that he was actually either absorbed into the Tesseract or transported to the other side of the universe by the Infinity Stone. Given Thanos' strong links to the powerful item, there's every chance this experience brought Red Skull into contact with the Mad Titan - and he may well have been plotting with him to take over the universe for a very, very long time.
