For whatever reason, Cyclops was really mishandled in the original X-Men films. Gone was the stoic leader of the team, instead replaced with an under-utilized hero who spent most of his time protecting his relationship with Jean Grey instead of instilling a positive change in his world.

X-Men: Apocalypse has a chance to right those wrongs, and may have picked the perfect guy to help do it. Tye Sheridan might not be known to many but he’s exactly the Scott Summers we need. He comes across like an all-American leader but still has that twinge of being an outcast in him.

Sheridan absolutely looks the part, but more than that, his performance in a film like Mud shows he’s capable of handling an emotionally complex role. He commands the screen but gives off a believable vulnerability. Fans might not be singing his praises now, but it looks like the future of the X-Men franchise will be in good hands with Sheridan as one of the leads.
