Though The Cursed Child explores the legacy of Voldemort and the status of the Malfoy family, if that isn't classed as cinematic canon, Rowling (or whoever scripts potential sequel-spin-offs) could go down a similar thread.
To put it plainly, you do not name a character Scorpius Malfoy without some intention to make him at least aspire to be a supervillain. He could very easily be presented as a Hogwarts student poisoned by the ghosts of history (perhaps literally propelled to darkness by the ghosts within Hogwarts) and determined to reclaim his family honour.
That would lead Harry - in his job at the Ministry to investigate what appears to be a rise in activity of Voldemort's followers - to suspect Draco as Scorpius experiments more and loses himself to the Dark Arts. And centring on a student-age character would mean Hogwarts as well as the Ministry could play as much of a part as in the original film series.
