10 Performances That Prove NBA Players Make The Best Movie Stars

9. Dwyane Wade - What To Expect When You're Expecting (2012)

There's been a spate of films in the last decade made out of self-help books and they make for some of the most nonsensical page to screen adaptations going. Which makes sense- they're self-help books. They weren't written to have a plot or characterisation, so trying to make them into a coherent narrative is a fools game. And one of the most egregious examples of this genre is What To Expect When You're Expecting, a movie in which everyone is pregnant and no one is happy. It's basically a 30-something's Facebook feed stretched out over nearly two excruciating hours. It is also one of those movies with an inexplicably good cast. Elizabeth Banks and Chris Rock. Cameron Diaz and that guy from Glee. Jennifer freakin' Lopez. And starting shooting guard for the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade. What a year was 2012 for Wade. He won his second NBA title alongside his superstar best friend, LeBron James. He was dating ageless babe Gabrielle Union, who he'd later marry. And he did a "hip hop dance" for Celebrity Dance Factor, the Dancing With The Stars parody at the centre of What To Expect When You're Expecting. All totally equal achievements to be sure. The really stunning thing about this choice of film role is that, by Wade's own admission in a promotional interview, "It wasn't that I was like psyched about it at first...I don't dance". You sure don't, Dwyane. Which makes the decision to take on a cameo in a film in which you are required only to dance truly special. Still, he's pretty charming about the whole thing and you sort of have to admire someone famous for their physical skill showing off their klutzy side, so Wade gets a pass for this one.
