10 Phenomenally Talented Actors Who Have Never Won Oscars
4. Amy Adams
Like DiCaprio, Amy Adams enters the Oscar race this year hot off a win for her role in American Hustle. The actress has been on a bit of a winning streak since her first collaboration with David O. Russell on 2010's The Fighter. Their most recent effort, the lauded American Hustle, is creating all the right kind of "Oscar Buzz" for its cast and crew. If she were to be recognized again, it would make five nominations without a single win. Her first nomination came in 2006 for her portrayal as Ashley in the low-budget Junebug. The recognition helped transition her from supporting television roles to films. In 2009, she was nominated for Doubt. Her third nomination coming in 2011 for her role as Charlene Fleming in The Fighter. With 2013 came another nomination for PT Anderson's The Master and Adams' subdued performance as Peggy Dodd, wife to burgeoning religious leader Lancaster Dodd, played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Opposite Hoffman's showy, charismatic leader, Adam's Peggy appears to just blend into the scenery. After multiple viewings, it becomes more apparent what she's doing with her eyes: casting skeptical glances towards Joaquin Phoenix's Freddy Quell and quietly pulling the strings of her supposed leader husband. The entire performance is an exercise in restraint.
