10 Philip K Dick Movie Adaptations Ranked Best To Worst

4. Impostor

Samantha Morton Minority Report
Dimension Films

Shot in 1998 as part of an anthology, Impostor was expanded to feature length before finally seeing release in 2002, where it was overlooked in favor of Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report.

The plot is typical PKD: a working stiff (Gary Sinise) is hunted by the security forces, who believe he is an android duplicate unaware of his true nature - to assassinate a chancellor with a bomb built inside him. This leads to various fights, shootouts and chase sequences, but Impostor isn’t the big budget, FX-heavy adaptation Hollywood usually churns out.

Belying its origins, it’s a modest film that was never going to compete with Spielberg, but on its own quiet terms its entertaining and suspenseful and of the two films, you have to agree that Impostor has by far the better ending. If you want to watch the original 37 minute short (which eliminates most of the chase sequences), it’s available on the DVD.
