1. Batman Escapes Arkham - Batman: The Frightening
Back when Warner Bros. were considering Batman: The Frightening as the title for Batman Begins, a script was leaked and made its way on to AICN, leading to some believing it to be an authentic treatment. What made the script seem so compelling was that it was great: like, truly a wonderful thing in parts, and it crucially included an exceptional sequence that would tell of how Batman escaped from Arkham Asylum, and then flash-back to what caused his mental decline and what led to his being locked away. The action would keep jumping forwards to follow Bruce Wayne struggling with the demons that wound him up in Arkham, and then the final act would be him moving on and living with his ghosts- just as Chris Nolan eventually chose to do. It's the action scene that was the most valuable - as Warner Bros. Games proved with the exceptional Arkham franchise - and it's just a shame that the script was ultimately discovered to have been a fake, written not by the credited pair of Terry Hayes and Rafael Yglesias, but by Brandon Gaines - the star of Street Fighter rip-off Superfights. Perhaps because of the mistreatment of the Schumacher era, and the development hell of projects attempted before 2003, the excitement for the project was palpable, and it remains a genuine crime that nobody stole Gaines' idea for the Arkham break-out for a key set-piece.
