6. A Better World...Without Humanity

Ares' ultimate plan, as he explains to Diana near the end of the movie, is to rid the world of humanity through war, and revert it back to a utopia-like existence before humans even existed. He even requests her help in doing so, which she quickly rejects.

At its core, this isn't a million miles away from Ego's plot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: through his interactions with life in the universe, he came to find his discoveries disappointing, and so decided to terraform as many planets as possible, including Earth, into idyllic paradises made in his own image. He also requested the help of his son, Peter, to do so, but he also turned down the offer.

Both men were thoroughly deluded megalomaniacs Hell-bent on re-shaping worlds to their own ends.
