2. Ant-Man
It's tricky to link the Ant-Man (Scott Lang) to the Avengers' story at this point: when the movie catches up with him in the present day, he'll be in prison. But seeing the action of Age of Ultron through the eyes of prisoners would have been a quirky scene to end the film and a good way for Lang to begin to charm us. Lang has a master's in electrical engineering, so while some of his cellmates might have been scared of the robot apocalypse or happy to see some super-cops get their comeuppance, Lang might have been focused, comically, on Ultron's body design and how cool the shell looks. Almost like a metal bug. Alternatively, introducing Hank Pym, the elder Ant-Man, would have been a treat for fans who know the comics' Ant-Man/Ultron connection, and showing his tech would have more directly foreshadowed that movie's plot. Why It May Not Have Happened: Aside from the aforementioned change in directors for Ant-Man, it would've been tough to do the prison scene without either making it of uncertain significance - who is this mouthy prisoner and why should we care? - or getting too cute with hints about the significance. And Hank Pym, with no obvious connection to any Avengers, might have felt like one more character to memorize in this crowded movie, maybe one too many.
