10 Potentially Awesome DTV Action Movies Coming In 2014

Everybody knows the name of the next big modern comic book movie, but not many knows what€™s going on in the land of Direct-To-Video action movies. Some may refer to it as the garbage bin, while others may call it 'the last frontier of the old school action movie'. Ever wonder what the washed-up action stars are doing when they are not in Expendables movies? With more talented directors in DTV action than there has been in God knows how long the future is looking bright for the heroes of yesteryear. 2014 has several interesting DTV projects in the pipeline that might skip theaters, but could still give you a damn good time if you turn your brain off beforehand.

Honourable Mention: Full Love/The Eagle Path/Soldiers

The Eagle Path has been Van Damme€™s pet project for years with him directing, writing, producing and starring in the movie. If any movie has had a troubled post-production story, this is it. The movie was filmed way back in 2008 and had apparently finished post-production by 2010, when it was screened for buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. It was met with mixed reviews, which led to Van Damme calling for reshoots starting in 2012. It was rumored that he was not satisfied by the first cut of the movie. In fact, he turned down the first Expendables to be present at the cutting sessions for The Eagle Path. The movie originally titled The Eagle Path has since gone through several titles; first changing the title to Soldiers and then to Full Love, which I believe is its current title. Some new footage was put online by JCVD in 2013, but the release date is still unsure, although a good guess would be this year, that is if it is ever going to be released. If Full Love, Soldiers, The Eagle Path or whatever is released, the concept at least sounds different compared to most DTV actioners. Van Damme plays a former military veteran and mercenary named Frenchy hiding from his past in Bangkok working as a taxi driver. He picks up a female passenger, who he takes on the most dangerous ride of her life. When talking about the movie in interviews Van Damme places much emphasis on the fact that he allowed the actors to improvise a lot, and that it is a different movie than he usually does. It will be exciting to see if the movie is truly worth 6 years production time.
