10 Potentially Awesome Movies Released in July 2015
9. Jimmy's Hall
What's it about? Prolific British director Ken Loach returns once again, this time casting his scrutinous eye over the life of Jimmy Gralton, the leader of the Revolutionary Workers' Group who faced deportation from America in the 1930s. Barry Ward is joined by Simone Kirby and Jim Norton in the cast line-up, while the thematic meat comes in Loach's exploration of the conflict between the Catholic church - abusive and hypocritical - and Gralton's desire to liberate ordinary people through education. Why it could be awesome: Reviews have been relatively lukewarm for Jimmy's Hall so far, but that's not to say it won't hold a great deal of appeal for fans of Ken Loach. His socio-political brand of filmmaking isn't for everyone, but the endorsement from Little White Lies' David Jenkins, who describes it as containing "some of his finest work in years" bodes well. Jimmy's Hall has been doing the rounds already this year at film festivals but will be enjoying a limited release in the US in early July.
