10 Potentially Awful 2014 Movies That Turned Out Great
2. Guardians Of The Galaxy
Why it could have been awful: It goes without saying that the quality of a big budget comic book movie adaptation can be hit or miss; for every The Dark Knight or The Avengers there's a Batman And Robin or Fantastic Four. With Guardians Of The Galaxy - based on a lesser known comic book and with a cast and crew without a track record making movies of this nature - the chances of it falling into the "awful" category seemed fairly strong, especially since one of the main characters was a talking raccoon. Why it's great: As it turned out, the talking raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) was just one of several entertaining characters in a film which delivered plenty of excitement from start to finish. Director James Gunn's background making funny genre films like Slither clearly taught him how to strike the right balance between action and comedy, while Guardian Of The Galaxy's bright and colourful locations and well orchestrated action scenes made a welcome change from the approach to realism aimed for in other big comic book movie franchises.
