8. Dr. No
There are presently 23 films in the James Bond Eon franchise, making it the most long lasting and viable franchise of all time. Dr. No was the film that started it all. It featured the slick cars and the suave, debonair attitude of Sean Connery and all the hallmarks that would become the James Bond franchise. But, with all of the other Bond movies and the various spoofs and parodies that have befallen the franchise, Dr. No indeed seems like a franchise starter and a very lackluster one at that. This is a good example of an innovative film seeming like cliché. With the Austin Powers franchise especially, this film fell close to self parody. There is a very tongue in cheek feel for the whole film like the filmmakers knew they were making silly fluff but it does not work as well as it does in the other films. The follow-ups of From Russia with Love and Goldfinger plays as more naturalistic films while still having the fun of a James Bond film. In addition, it looks like a cheap film which will not be true with all the subsequent films. Depending on the order and what age you begin watching these films, Dr. No will seem below the standard of the franchise especially in the pantheon of the best Bond of them all; Sean Connery.
