10 Problems Only Movie Lovers Will Understand

4. When Nobody Gets Your Obscure Movie Quotes

Coraline Gif Whether you (misguidedly) decide to quote an Ingmar Bergman film or the latest offering from Adam Sandler (but God knows why?), there's always going to be someone who doesn't get your geeky movie quote or reference, causing you a great deal of anguish as you must consider whether a) to let it go or b) educate them on some film history, though at the same time killing the "joke" stone dead. It can be tolerable if such a quote simply goes over everyone's heads, and they attribute the saying to you (making you look smarter), but if you're met with a room full of glum, gormless faces, or even an utterance of, "I don't get it", it can be the most galling thing for a motor-mouth movie fan. My advice? Stick to quoting The Joker unless you're with company you know will get it.
