10 Promising Comic Book Movies That Sadly Never Happened

10. James Cameron's Spider-Man

Before Sam Raimi brought Spider-Man to the big-screen in 2002 a film adaptation for our favorite friendly neighborhood superhero was stuck in development hell for what felt like an eternity. Ever since the mid-80s several variations of the story would find itself almost being made. Everyone from B-movie king Roger Corman to horror movie auteur Tobe Hooper were slated to get a crack at bringing the web-slinger to the big-screen. Then in the early '90s, Mr. Terminator himself James Cameron tried to make a gritty, more adult Spider-Man. Cameron's script went heavy on the profanity and the story would have culminated with a battle atop the World Trade Center. But the movie's most eyebrow-raising scene would have been a Spider-Man and Mary Jane love-making session that would have been rather graphic, on top of the Brooklyn Bridge. Legal issues with the movie studios prevented all of this from happening. With Cameron's track record we can almost guarantee that the film would have been a hit financially and we're (almost) sure it would have been just as groundbreaking as the film that would ultimately be released ten years later.
