10 Promising Comic Book Movies That Sadly Never Happened

7. Darren Aronofsky€™s Batman: Year One

Long before Christopher Nolan€™s Batman Begins hit theaters, director Darren Aronofsky almost made his own take on Batman. After finishing Requiem For A Dream in 2000, the director was developing a screen adaptation of Frank Miller€˜s milestone Batman story Batman: Year One. With Miller's help, Aronofsky set out to create something that would be the polar opposite of the Joel Schumacher fiasco that was Batman & Robin. He planned to refuse to shoot on sets and instead set his film in the American inner city. He compared the young Jim Gordon of the graphic novel to Al Pacino's Serpico, and Batman himself to Travis Bickle from Martin Scorsese's vigilante story Taxi Driver. He pitched the film as "Death Wish or The French Connection meets Batman." The film ultimately became too violent for WB. The studio pulled the plug, Christopher Nolan was hired to take over and the rest, as they say, is history.
